10 Things to Enjoy For Free in London

10 Things to Enjoy For Free in London

There’s no denying that London is an expensive city. However, being so diverse, it does have an astonishing number of things to do for free. Check out 10 of the best:

Visit one of London’s many museums

London prides itself on being cultural. So it comes as no surprise that it is home to some of the best museums in the world. The Natural History Museum, the Bank of England Museum and the William Morris Gallery are three of our favourites, but there are many, many more, offering visitors an night into British culture and the country’s history.

Enjoy the outside space

A heavily populated city, London has an array of outdoor space, ideal for relaxing in and forgetting daily stresses. The most popular of all, Hyde Park covers 142 hectares, while Kensington Gardens is home to the Peter Pan Statue. And if you’re looking for something a bit different, head to St. James’s Park at 2:00pm to see the pelicans being fed.

Be a tourist

Attracting a horde of visitors every day, London’s unique traditions are what make it unique. The Changing of the Guard outside Buckingham Palace is always fun to watch, while the gate-closing ritual, the Ceremony of the Keys, at the Tower of London is always worth a watch.

See London in bloom

London can seem a grey city sometimes, so it’s always nice to see some colour – especially if it’s free. Barbican Conservatory is home to some of the most stunning tropical plants, trees and fish you will find anywhere, Holland Park is a Kyoto Japanese Garden that eludes peacefulness, while Pheonix Garden in the West End is a dazzling wildflower-lush patch that is ideally located next to London’s theatres.

Have a laugh

Believe it or not, you can enjoy a giggle at not one, but two, of London’s best comedy clubs for free. Angel Comedy Club offers free entry nightly, while The Miller is free on Wednesdays for those who need a mid-week pick-me up.

Exercise free speech

Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park is famous the world over for providing people with a place to air their thoughts and feelings to the world. Although somewhat liberating to take part, it can be just as freeing to spend an hour listening to people’s thoughts.

Get musical

The Royal College of Music‘s students put on free performances at lunchtime and during rush-hour right across London. The historic college has tutored some of the world’s most famous musicians, such as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gustav Holst. So you never know, you could be seeing the future of music – for free.

Take a stroll

London’s Tube system is as famous as the city, but there really is no better way to experience London than on foot. The South Bank is awash with entertainers during the summer, providing both locals and tourists with merriment all day. Numerous bars and restaurants run alongside, offering stunning views of the Thames, London Eye, Big Ben and Canary Wharf.

Get immersed in its diverse culture

Situated just north of Paddington lies Little Venice. So called thanks to its picturesque canal area that is home to waterside cafes, bars and pubs. Lined with trees, quaint bridged and al fresco dining, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were anywhere but Venice.

Embrace the weird

Full of wonder and beauty, London is also home to some rather odd places. Crystal Palace Park for example is home to full-size dinosaurs. Nestling carefully in the foliage, they are a striking reminder of London’s diverse range of entertainment.
