Escape to Little Venice In Maida Vale

Escape to Little Venice In Maida Vale

As much as we love our city, it’s perfectly natural to want to get out and explore the rest of Europe. Easier said than done, right? While there’s nothing quite like the Italian atmosphere, you can score some Venetian vibes, right here in London.

Tucked away as one of the city’s most beloved gems is what Londoners affectionately refer to as “Little Venice.” It’s actually the spot where Regent’s Canal and Grand Union Canal intersect and is particularly picturesque in the summer sun. There’s row upon row of cute canal cafes, pubs and restaurants. It doesn’t get better than enjoying a summer afternoon with friends by the water.

Let’s face it: you work hard. Every week you bust your tail at Uni or in the office, so when it comes to the weekend, you’re truly ready to kick back and reeeeelax. I don’t blame you. Luckily, if you’re in the mood to treat yourself, why not take a canal boat ride? Most rides last around 45 minutes and take you from Little Venice all the way through to Camden Town. Perfect chance to chill out, soak up the sun and cruise along the canals.

What you probably didn’t know is Little Venice is famous for its theatre scene. The area is packed with independent theatres, where you can see anything from a puppet show at the Puppet Theatre Barge to award-winning comedy at the Canal Cafe Theatre. If you want to stretch your pound, check out Sheldon Square’s amphitheatre, which often hosts free shows and screenings.
